Jayawijaya, January 10, 2025 – The Jayawijaya Regency Government, represented by Assistant II of the Regional Secretariat, Lekius Yikwa, attended the opening of the 3rd Working Meeting (Raker) of the GKI Baliem Yalimo Classis for 2025 on Friday (10/1). The event, held in the Baliem Valley, was attended by church leaders, congregation representatives, and community figures. The meeting carried the theme “The Love of Christ Inspires Church Independence to Achieve Justice, Peace, and Prosperity.”
In his speech, Lekius Yikwa emphasized that working meetings are an essential platform for organizations to discuss and evaluate various activities carried out throughout the past year. According to him, these evaluations serve as the foundation for developing better plans for the future, especially in service to the congregation.
"I hope that all leaders and congregation members actively contribute constructive thoughts and ideas to advance GKI services, especially in the Baliem Valley. Maintaining unity and harmony among all congregation members is also crucial as it serves as the foundation for achieving the church’s mission," said Lekius.
He also invited all GKI congregations in Papua to collaborate with other church denominations in congregation development. In addition, Lekius highlighted the vital role of churches in supporting various government programs in education, social development, and economic progress for the community.
"Synergy between the church and the government is crucial in creating a just and prosperous society. The church is not only a place for spiritual growth but also a driving force for social change within the community," he added.
The Head of the GKI Baliem Yalimo Classis, Rev. Eduard Su, expressed gratitude for the successful organization of this 3rd Working Meeting. He revealed that the event was attended by 28 congregations within the GKI Baliem Yalimo Classis. According to Rev. Eduard, this meeting is a follow-up to the previous classis meeting resolutions and serves as a platform to align the vision and mission of service for 2025.
"This working meeting aims to evaluate all programs and services carried out throughout 2024. Additionally, we will review the budget management over the past year to use it as a learning material for better planning in the future," explained Rev. Eduard.
He added that the meeting would decide on various strategic activities for 2025 in alignment with the work plans of the GKI Synod in Papua. The primary focus is building unity among all congregations to achieve justice, peace, and prosperity rooted in Christ’s love.
"We hope that 2025 will be a year of unity. This is our great hope as the classis working body so that all workers and partners present can create impactful programs for the congregation and the wider community. Everything is done for the glory and honor of God’s name," he said.

Rev. Eduard also emphasized the importance of innovation in church services to address the challenges of the times. He hoped that the outcomes of this working meeting would have a positive impact, not only for the GKI congregation but also for the broader community in Papua.
The opening ceremony of the 3rd Working Meeting of the GKI Baliem Yalimo Classis was held with enthusiasm and a spirit of togetherness. Meeting participants are expected to devise new programs to strengthen church services, foster relationships among congregations, and support development in various sectors of community life.
